Please complete and submit this form if you have a horse or pony with an Identification Document (white passport) with no breeding recorded that you think may be a rare breed (Irish Draught, Connemara Pony, or Kerry Bog Pony) and wish to do DNA testing to verify.
Parentage Discovery testing for potential designated rare breeds is €100 (inc VAT).
On submission of this form and processing of payment, HSI will send you out a DNA sample bag which you should send back to HSI with approximately 60 mane/tail hairs with roots intact from the horse/pony you want tested.
This hair sample will be sent to Weatherbys where the SNP genotype will be generated and sent back to the HSI Geneticist who will run the appropriate tests to determine the origins of your horse.
The €100 fee covers the Parentage Discovery testing only. If anything is found in the analysis and you wish to have your passport updated to include the breed/parentage of your horse then the normal passport update fees for the relevant studbook will apply.
Please note that this test does not guarantee that the parentage of your horse/pony will be established. Once the DNA sample has been issued to the lab no refunds can be offered.
Should you retract your application ahead of DNA testing, a refund less the admin fee will be offered (€10 admin fee).
